From Knoc-Turn’al’s “The Way I Am”, Rocko’s “Imma Do Me”, Young Jeezy’s “Imma Do Me”, and FANTASIA’s “I’M DOIN’ ME” it seems that’s all people are talking about these days! Ignoring others, not worrying about other….SELF is the main focus. Selfish is what I think it is. Me, Me, Me.
“Imma do me” or “you do you” .. but what does it mean to you? Are we so self-absorbed that we don’t have concerns for one another? “You take care of yourself, I will take care of myself”…What kinda foolishness is that!? We have reached a time where people are more about self than ever. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 states “1-5Don’t be naive. There are difficult times ahead. As the end approaches, people are going to be self-absorbed, money-hungry, self-promoting, stuck-up, profane, contemptuous of parents, crude, coarse, dog-eat-dog, unbending, slanderers, impulsively wild, savage, cynical, treacherous, ruthless, bloated windbags, addicted to lust, and allergic to God. They’ll make a show of religion, but behind the scenes they’re animals. Stay clear of these people.” (The Message Bible)
Being apart of this 40 Days of Fasting and Praying has really taught me a lot about myself. During this time I have had to focus on others in my life and around me. When I pray I think about others now, making sure to include them, both friends and enemies, in my prayers. We are always asking what we want of Him. It is time for us to intercede for others. Intercessory prayer is not the same as prayers for yourself, or for ‘enlightenment’, or for spiritual gifts, or for guidance, or any personal matter, or any glittering generality. Intercession is not just praying for someone else’s needs. Intercession is praying with the real hope and real intent that God would step in and act for the positive advancement of some specific other person(s) or other entity. It is trusting God to act, even if it’s not in the manner or timing we seek. God wants us to ask, even urgently. It is casting our weakness before God’s strength, and (at its best) having a bit of God’s passion burn in us.
So personally I’m done with this “I’mma do me” mentally! Because it’s not about us, it’s about Jesus! Sooooo, God…You do You within me!
