Valentine’s Day: The Ins and Outs, The Ups and Downs, To be Single or Not to Be…

So tomorrow is Valentine’s Day.  This is the day where people run around like a chicken with their heads cut off trying to purchase gifts that within a months time might be forgotten. (laughing)

I mean come on man…I was reminded earlier of the following mental picture.  You have this fat white baby flying around shooting weapons of mass destruction at people.  What in the world?!  First off why is there a baby with wings flying around trying to make me do something they may not want to do!?

Now I am single, meaning NOT married.  This does not bother me one bit, but I do know of some people that this day in particular gets to them.  I mean, what’s up with all of the “Down with Valentine’s Day” Parties. *shrug*  What I do know is that this is a day of exchanging flowers, cards, and loving sentiments punctuated with warm feelings of admiration, affection, and infatuation. But for millions of Americans, there is one thing preventing them from participating in these celebratory acts of love: a date.

Now tomorrow I will enjoy my non-traditional Valentine’s Day.  Hey, I’m a teacher.  I will be celebrating V-Day from 7:30 am to 4:15 pm.  I will have 16 beautiful and handsome Valentines that will run to me with hugs and kisses that will last me the entire day.  What more could girl ask for?!

Now to all my “friends” out there don’t get caught up in the marketing purposes of the day. Mass retail merchandisers move from one holiday to the next in an attempt to get people to spend their money.  Can we say “Happy Valentines Day” to the one we love, or do we need to go crazy and spend money on gifts, flowers and cards for everyone in our lives?

I will end this post by saying this…

Celebrate with thoughtfulness! I understand that we want to show people we love them on Valentine’s Day.  It’s more meaningful to take the time, and think of something that our loved one would really appreciate, instead of pouring our money into meaningless gifts that only put money in the pockets of merchandisers, ending up in the garbage. Celebrate Valentine’s Day, but if we’re going to celebrate it, then lets do it thoughtfully.

Love, Peace, and SOOOOOOOOUL!!!

This is a place for me to reflect on things that are happening in my life.  I might just be one person in this big world of ours, but I'm one person that's on a mission... Life:: the sequence of physical and mental experiences that make up the existence of an individual. Life is a funny thing.  It is forever changing and as it changes so will I.

You may ALWAYS speak your mind here! :)
