Reading is FUNdamental: Annual Book Drive

Reading is fundamental

The school year has official begun and this also means the 3R’s: Reading, Writing and Arithmetic.

Technology has resulted in many changes, both positive and negative. The increased use of personal computers in the classroom means students are not focusing on learning the 3 R’s.

It is during the month of October that I hone in on Reading! Why reading? This is when I have my Annual Birthday Book Drive.

National testing in 2009 indicated that the national average in reading in 2009 was slightly higher than in 2005 but lower than the results from 1992. Overall, the results by proficiency have not significantly changed from 1992 to 2009.

According to Reading Is Fundamental, “reading to young children promotes language acquisition and literacy development and, later on, achievement in reading comprehension and overall success in school.”

We need to instill the love of reading in our children and nurture it throughout his or her life. Even after he or she can learn to read by themselves, it’s still important for you to read aloud together.

It sends an important message: reading is worthwhile.

With my Annual Birthday Book Drive, I try my best to show my students that reading is so important by dedicating my birthday to them.

So I am asking for your help…help me to show my students that “Reading is FUNdamental”! Donate TODAY by clicking on the picture below…any little bit will help. 🙂

This is a place for me to reflect on things that are happening in my life.  I might just be one person in this big world of ours, but I'm one person that's on a mission... Life:: the sequence of physical and mental experiences that make up the existence of an individual. Life is a funny thing.  It is forever changing and as it changes so will I.

You may ALWAYS speak your mind here! :)
